After over 24 hours of digging and drilling, a tunnel was made to on of the main shaft of the Hopkins Springs coal mine. The cause of the collapse was discover to be a support failure. 11 of the 12 miners were unharmed, while one miner, who had just entered the mine at the time of the collapse, suffered a broken leg. The Sarim Coal Company paid full compensation for his medical bills stating: "Since the collapse was cause by a bad support frame, it's only justice that we help pay the medical cost." The mine is expect to remain closed for the next couple days for inspection of all supports and beams, as well as reconstructing the entrance.
